ABSTRACT

The banking industry staff gained valuable experience during the COVID-19 epidemic. The aim of this study was to investigate the consequences of Coronavirus on employee behavior in the COVID-19 epidemic. To achieve this goal, a study with a qualitative approach and with a phenomenological strategy was conducted. In this study, two main categories of intrapersonal reactions and interpersonal responses were characterized, with the former including six subcategories (negative emotions, change in structure of needs, obsession, stress, fear, and disruption in organizational commitment) and the latter involving three subcategories (abnormal social behavior, abnormal occupational behavior, and abnormal communicative behavior). The variables of fear, stress, burnout, and aggression were exposed to the highest frequency. This study showed that upon the occurrence of novel crises, the organizations should take strategies based on crisis management, e.g., immunizing the workplace, showing emotional and financial support to the personnel, and asking the personnel to change their behavior as members of the community.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has impaired hospitals, i.e. cardiac departments by cancellation of acute interventions and reduction of bed num-bers. Cardiac rehabilitation clinics were affected up to partial or complete shut-down. This investigation was performed in order to obtain how the pandemic in 2020 had affected the cardiac rehabilitation institutions. Method(s): Via an online survey, which the DGPR performs yearly in its member institutions in order to get data of the performance numbers, data re-lating to the pandemic situation 2020 were collected between May and November 2021. Result(s): At 30th of November 2021, 74 rehabilitation institutions (rate 71 %) provided data of 94.668 patients. In more than 50 % short time was int-roduced (for physicians in 52,7 %, for other persons in 63,5 %). 67 institutions (93,1 %) reported a decrease of alloca-tion of patients, on average for 32 weeks duration. 30 institutions (41,1 %) reported a COVID-19 onset, which in 10 % resulted in a shutdown of the institution. Discussion(s): The survey substantia-tes the drastic consequences of the CO-VID-19 pandemic for cardiac rehabilitation institutions in 2020, this becomes clear by the reduction of allocations and the shutdown of institutions - and this in the light of an increasing need for rehabilitation i.e. due to numerous suffe-rers with post / long COVID syndrome.Copyright © 2022, Verlag Kirchheim and Co. ABSTRACT

This study was designed to explore COVID-19 in a biopsychosocial model, taking into account the different mental and social consequences of the disease in women and men. A sociodemographic questionnaire containing anthropometric data, socioeconomic data, lifestyle data, health status before COVID-19, course of COVID-19, symptoms, and complications after COVID-19 was administered to 83 women and 64 men to investigate their mental health (MH) and quality of life (QoL). The Hospital Anxiety (HADS-A) and Depression (HADS-D) Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Scale Brief Version (WHOQOL-BREF) were adopted. Abnormal results in HADS-D and HADS-A were obtained in 33 (39.8%) women and 10 (15.6%) men and in 26 (31.3%) women and 14 (21.9%) men, respectively. Women experienced a lower level of QoL than men. The prolonged duration of COVID-19 symptoms was associated with increased anxiety in women during recovery. Good self-reported health before COVID-19 in women was associated with reduced QoL. Women had more symptoms of COVID-19 than men, and they experienced neurological complications more often. The presence of neurological complications in women appears to be associated with increased perceived anxiety and reduced QoL. This is an exploratory study whose results can influence future research with larger and more diverse samples.

ABSTRACT

Introduction. On average, 10% of patients hospitalized due to new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will be readmitted. To date, the reasons for readmission and the characteristics of these cases are not fully presented. The aim of the study was to analyze readmissions of COVID-19 patients to identify the causes of readmission, clinical features, examination data and treatment outcomes. Materials and methods. The study was performed retrospectively by using electronic records of the medical cases of the St. Petersburg City Hospital of St. George. Inclusion criteria: 1) the presence of two or more hospitalizations during 2020–2021;2) COVID-19 confirmed by polymerase chain reaction within 14 days before or during the first hospitalization, or the detection of changes in the lungs with a high probability associated with COVID-19 during primary computed tomography. One hundred and two people met the specified criteria. Results. In 85% of cases, the cause of re-admission was symptoms of respiratory infection;in 13% – thrombotic events (pulmonary embolism, acute cerebrovascular accident, deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities);12% – severe pain syndrome of various localizations;11%-infectious and inflammatory processes;9% – antibiotic-associated diarrhea;5% – atrial fibrillation and less often other pathologies. Patients with respiratory symptoms had a high degree of respiratory failure, an increase in the volume of affected lung tissue and an increase in the content of various markers of inflammation in the blood when compared with the data of the initial examination. Nine percent of patients died during hospitalization. Conclusions. The leading cause of repeated inpatient treatment of COVID-19 patients were symptoms of reactivation of the infection with a number of indicators of a greater severity of this "second wave” of the disease. Further studies are required to reduce the risk of repeated inpatient treatment. © 2022, Remedium Group Ltd. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Logistics managers are responsible for efficient functioning of transport companies. This article will allow logistics managers to better understand the essence of logistics projects and the implementation of alternative routes. The aim of this article is to show the process of implementation of new routing alternatives. The analysis was conducted for the period January ÷ April 2020, which marked the emergence of the first COVID-19 cases, as well as for the months January ÷ April 2021. Alternative routes were proposed and implemented to improve the quality of services in a transport company operating in Poland. The impact of the pandemic on the selected transport company was evaluated. The results on new sections of transport corridors were presented together with an in-depth verification of how the introduced changes affected the provided transport services. In the end, the most important benefits connected with the analysis and the implemented project were presented. © 2022, Faculty of Navigation, Gdynia Maritime University. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Events caused by complex crisis which became evident in regional economies as a result of the spread of COVID-19 have affected the manufacturing industry of the South of Russia. The purpose of this article is to identify and analyse the prospects for the sustainable development of industry in the South of Russia in the context of new economic trends. The methodological basis of the study is founded on the theory of shocks, which made it possible to place at the center of the system of cause and-effect relationships a set of factors in business activity decrease, which are considered as shocks that form new development trends. The analysis revealed the presence of problems of production interruptions and break of supply chains, reduction in resource flows, as well as a decrease in effective demand for industrial products. According to the opinion of the authors, the prospects for the development of the industrial complex of the region are associated with the balance of market self-regulation and government regulation, and are also determined by the accumulated potential of the regional industry and available adaptive capabilities.
